The Auction for Diabetes Research is ON!

1 May

auctionofyear

I’ve been missing in action for a while, sorry about that. It’s been a bit crazy around here, full of car repairs, forcing teenagers to attend school when they are suffering spring fever, and, of course, preparing the next book for release.

One of the best things I did while I was away was donate to Brenda Novak’s annual auction to raise funds for diabetes research. This is the eighth year of Ms. Novak’s auction, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it on the donation side, rather than just the bidding side! A Kindle Fire is loaded with a copy of Mending Fences, along with 25 additional contemporary romance and romantic suspense books donated by other authors, and the bidding is underway. Check it out by clicking the blue auction banner to the right!

There are some truly amazing items to bid on, for both writers and readers. Please, go explore and place your bids for a great cause!

My Fun Saturday Find

14 Apr

I have Google Alerts set up to let me know if Mending Fences comes up on web pages. I primarily use this to track possible pirating, but today, it returned notice of a review I didn’t know existed. I am grinning from ear to ear! Please have a look, and explore the blog while you’re there.

DEBRA S. SANDERS

Day 1 – Her Highland Champion by Alexa Bourne

Day 2 – Moonlight on the Nantahala by Micheal Rivers

Day 3 – Legends of Tsalagee by Phil Truman

Day 4 – Two Moons of Sera by Pavarti K Tyler

Day 5 – Mending Fences by Lucy Francis

I ran across this release while perusing the Kindle lists for a contemporary romance. I looked at Ms. Francis bio and it appears this might be her debut novel. If so, give the lady a round of applause. Very well written. Good plot. Flows nicely. Evoked a sigh at the end (always a good sign for a romance.)

Last I checked, Mending Fences is garnering rave reviews by other readers. It maintains a solid ranking in the Kindle store as well as contemporary romance. Another good sign.

I’m visiting another author today!

11 Apr

I’m spending this gorgeous Wednesday in Texas…virtually, anyway! I’m a guest on romance author MJ Fredrick’s blog, talking about everything from the inspiration behind Mending Fences to three of my favorite things.

I’m also giving away a copy of Mending Fences, so come on over and visit! http://mjfredrick.wordpress.com/

The Birthday Blog Hop is Here!

5 Apr

Welcome to the Birthday Blog Hop! 60 authors are celebrating paranormal author Carrie Ann Ryan’s birthday tomorrow by participating in this hop. I’m so glad to have you here and I hope you enjoy yourself for a bit before moving on to the rest of the hop!

My best birthday came when I turned 27. I was divorced and dating a few different guys. One particular guy was introduced to my profile by the woman running the dating service we’d both joined a few months earlier. I had already viewed his profile, really liked him, and given permission for him to contact me. He liked my profile as well and called me one week before my birthday. We talked for an hour on the first call. He asked me out and we met for dinner and a long walk a few days later. By the time he sent flowers to my office the next day, I was hooked. We talked every night on the phone for hours, because we lived in different cities and getting together was tricky.

On my birthday, he had other plans, but he called me late that night, and as we talked, the conversation turned serious. Suddenly, the perfect moment struck, and he asked me to marry him.

I’d known him a week. We’d seen each other one night. I hadn’t even kissed him yet. But I knew. Lightning had struck, and I just knew.

I said yes.

I don’t recommend this approach to finding a mate to anyone else. But for us, it worked. We were married four weeks later and together we’ve raised five children. It’s been an amazing ride with my towering Helvetican Hero, and it all started on my birthday!

Oh, I did finally kiss him when I saw him the next day. A lack of chemistry would have been a deal-breaker, but when his lips touched mine…wow! And after all these years, he can still make me weak in the knees with a kiss.

What’s your favorite or least favorite birthday memory? Leave a comment and your email address for a chance to win your choice of a $20 gift card from either Amazon or Barnes & Noble from me, and to have a shot at one of the Hop’s grand prizes:

  1. A Kindle Touch
  2. A $60 Gift Card to Amazon or Barnes & Noble

Oh, before you go, here’s the recipe for my current contemporary romance, Mending Fences:

Take one reformed hotshot CEO playing rancher. Add one strong woman, an abuse survivor with a lot of secrets. Toss together for one searing kiss on Halloween, then separate. Fold in a slightly deformed pet bison who creates serendipity by accident. Stir together. Add discoveries, revelations, angst, heartbreak, suspense, and generous helpings of both healing and sexual tension. Layer with family relationships and a secondary love story and simmer to a Happy Ever After.

Opening taste: Curran Shaw treasured his anonymity, but maintaining it required solitude. And the damned solitude was killing him.

Available in paperback and ebook.

A quick recipe for Mending Fences, a sensual contemporary romance…

Take one reformed hotshot CEO playing rancher. Add one strong woman, an abuse survivor with a lot of secrets. Toss together for one searing kiss on Halloween, then separate. Fold in a slightly deformed pet bison who creates accidental serendipity. Stir together. Add discoveries, revelations, angst, heartbreak, suspense, and generous helpings of both healing and sexual tension. Layer with family relationships and a secondary love story and simmer to a Happy Ever After.

Don’t miss it! Download a copy before Friday at Midnight, PDT.

Playing Catch Up

27 Mar

Wow, almost a week since my last post. Granted, leaving the tribute to my dad up for a while was part of the plan, but then the weekend got away from me, and, well, here we are at Tuesday.

So, here’s a quick peek at Lucy’s Life at this moment:

  • I’m prepping for my first big Amazon promotion for Mending Fences.
  • I’m working on Finding Refuge, the second in this loosely tied series begun with MF. Tentative release is May ’12.
  • I sketched out a novella yesterday (at least I think it will be that short). It’s a time travel romance with a twist. Tentative release is June-July ’12.
  • I’m also spending time on the first in a sort of SF-ish paranormal romance series. I’ve had the individual books partly written for ages. Now I’m working on the overall series structure to make sure everything works together as well as separate. Some serious alpha males in this series, very bad boys. The first of these should release this fall.

Outside of writing, this week’s list includes spring cleaning the house, including the mess that is the storage room. It also includes finding the top of my desk, which should be declared at least a local-level disaster. The dogs need grooming, the roses need pruning, and the tree guy is coming to advise us on proper shaping of fruit trees on Friday.

Doesn’t sound like a whole lot. Trust me, it’s enough to keep me out of trouble for the week.

Please come back and visit on Thursday for the start of the Mending Fences promo!

Going Exclusive with Amazon

18 Mar

Since the launch of Mending Fences, I’ve been very methodical about promotion and learning where I could create movement. Some techniques work for generating sales, some don’t. While I’ve sold across all venues, the majority of my sales happen at Amazon.

Amazon offers tools to an author that have serious potential to increase visibility and drive sales. There is a price to be paid, though. An ebook must be sold exclusively through Amazon to use those tools.

So, I’m planning to move Mending Fences exclusively to Amazon for a 90-day period, not only to help it along, but also with an eye toward better visibility for Finding Refuge when it is released in May. The paperback book will not be exclusive, just the ebook version.

If you want Mending Fences in an ebook format other than for the Kindle, you might want to pick up a copy today. Otherwise, my books are DRM-free, so if you buy the book from Amazon, you can convert it to your desired format using software such as Calibre (which is awesome, I might add).

Any questions?

And the Winners are…

17 Mar

We had an amazing blog hop yesterday! Over 7,800 comments were posted over the course of the hop.

My blog’s winning comment (as selected by random.org) is: Books4me! She won a $10 Amazon Gift Card, and a paperback copy of my book, Mending Fences. Congratulations!

FYI, the Grand Prize winners for the entire hop were:

Choice of Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet: Comment #136, Melissa L, posting on Carrie Ann Ryan’s blog

Choice of $90 Amazon or B&N Gift Card: Comment #4186 from Wendy Smith’s blog

I’ll be participating in another Blog Hop in April, so I hope to see you all back again for a visit and a shot at more prizes!

St. Patrick’s Day Blog Hop: Siamsa Time!

16 Mar

Welcome to my stop on your St. Patrick’s Day Blog Hop! I’m thrilled to have you here!

My grandfather was Irish (my maiden name is Maher), and I’ve always been proud to have a bit of Irish in me.

I’d always wanted to try Irish step dancing, partly due to heritage, and partly because it just looks and sounds so very cool! A year ago on March 15 (oooooh, Beware the Ides of March), I blew out my knee during a taekwondo class. After surgery to replace the ACL and six months of rehab, I decided it was time for a new activity. After years of suggesting Irish dance as a mother/daughter activity to the Princess, she finally gave in, and we joined a school.

I’m not fantastic at it yet…still have a bit of trouble translating the steps from brain to feet! But it’s enormously fun and I only wish I’d started years ago. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year, I’ll be dancing in my first Siamsa (pronounced SHAMsuh, it’s basically a big Irish party), with hundreds of other dancers, musicians, and assorted folk turning out to celebrate the day when everyone can be Irish! How will you celebrate?

Leave a comment for a chance to win a $10 Amazon gift card from me, and to have a shot at one of the hop’s Grand Prizes: Your choice of a Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet, or your choice of a $90 Amazon or B&N Gift Card!

4 Mar

March is Read an Ebook Month, and over at Smashwords, we are celebrating Read an Ebook Week (March 4-10). Thousands of authors have put their books on sale for the week, anywhere from 25% off to free, so it’s an excellent time to try out one new ebook, or stock up!

Mending Fences is on sale during this promotion week for $1, so if you haven’t had a chance to pick up a copy, this would be a good time. http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/131449
